Quick Hits: Buffalo Sabres vs. Coyotes / vs. Lightning / at Penguins
The Buffalo Sabres’s game against Arizona had the feel of a gigantic letdown waiting to happen. First game after the Trade Deadline and first game after GMTM gave a speech to the team talking about how he still believes in this squad or whatever. Either way, something sparked and the Sabres were off to the races. Despite blowing two one-goal leads, Buffalo kept their foot on the hypothetical gas pedal and kept it to the Coyotes. When all was said and done, Buffalo outshot Arizona 41-22 and the shots attempted deficit was much worse. Jack Eichel and Ryan O’Reilly led the way with 3 points (each with 1 goal, 2 assists) and Marcus Foligno grabbed his 11th and 12th goals of the season, extending his career-high.
Game 2 of 3 this week was actually a real good matchup when the ink on the paper dried. Buffalo held their own for three periods and a five-minute overtime frame too. When it came to the shootout, Robin Lehner was less-than-stellar as usual but the Sabres again struggled to score any shootout goals. As for the 2nd Tampa shootout goal, I’m not even mad, lehner got got – graphic evidence is below.

Holy frustration, man. Buffalo could not have started this game any better. An early 3-0 lead, followed by a back-and-forth shootout that featured 100 combined shots on goal but it would be the effort late in the game that would be the worst part of it all. Buffalo let a late tying goal was definitely a high stick deflection but who is counting? Not too many minutes passed by, when another Penguins goal got past Nilsson. Hooray, another deflating loss in a season of deflating losses.
Quick (s)hits.

- BBG: All-Star Okposo
- Player of the Week

Also, Eichel became the 2nd player in NHL history to record a point against 29 opponents in his first two seasons. Pretty good stuff, Eich.
- Standings Update
The Sabres have a 0.9% chance of making the playoffs – that breaks down to a 13-3-1 record in the final 17 games to have a 66.2% chance of making the playoffs.
