TTP – “Three Big Things” from the Blowout in Chicago

The Buffalo Bills were once again in action on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.

While this game felt like most to be the second of three Bills preseason games this season, this game was much more for one man on the roster.

Former Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky was given the golden opportunity to show his former organization, and head coach, what he was truly made of.

Despite this only being a preseason exhibition, many will refer back to this game as the “Mitch Trubisky Revenge Game”.

With that, we look at the three big things:

  1. Mitch Trubisky Revenge Game
It was the aforementioned storyline of the game but it would be a major disappointment if we did not dig a little deeper on Trubisky’s performance.

When the final whistle blew, Trubisky completed the game 20 for 28 with 221 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Trubisky also ran the ball once for 11 yards.

There was no doubt that the Bills showed up for Trubisky in Chicago and he answered the bell.

After just two quarters, the Buffalo Bills, led by Trubisky, cruised to a 34-6 lead.

The beat-em-down was in full effect and it was magnificent.

  2. Rousseau’s Strong Preseason Continues
Following his strong preseason debut against the Detroit Lions, rookie Greg Rousseau continued his strong start on Saturday afternoon.

In only nine snaps, Rousseau recorded three pressures, two quarterback hits and one sack.

Rousseau is quickly playing himself into a bigger role and the regular season has not even begun.

Furthermore, the Bills defense as a whole recorded four sacks and four tackles-for-loss. Some like to refer to that as “midseason form”.

  3. Sealing the Deal
Isaiah McKenzie continues to reward the Buffalo Bills faith in his abilities.

McKenzie has continually been given a bigger and bigger roll in the Bills offense, as his tenure with the franchise grows.

On Saturday afternoon, McKenzie was given the opportunity to show why he deserves to be a big part of the Bills offense this season.

McKenzie recorded seven receptions for 72 yards on eight targets.

On special teams, McKenzie also returned three punts for a total of 51 yards.

With a role growing for McKenzie comes an opportunity for another player to step up, which is what rookie Marquez Stevenson did.

In his only punt return during Saturday’s game, Stevenson, noted speedster, took the return 79 yards to the house.

With a crowded wide receiver depth chart above him, Stevenson might just be able to make his way onto Buffalo’s roster with a role on special teams.
