Quick Hits: Buffalo Sabres at Sharks / at Kings / at Ducks

Buffalo Sabres vs. San Jose Sharks - 3/14/17
West Coast trips are the worst for sleep, but the best for #SabresAfterDark.

Things couldn’t have started any worse on the final West Coast trip of the 2016-17 NHL season for the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo took an early lead, thanks to Jack Eichel being a wizard. 20th goal of the season, which is a big deal because Eichel became the 2nd Buffalo Sabres player to record two 20 goal seasons before his age 21 season. Not too shabby. The night wasn’t over for Eichel though. After San Jose tied things up, the next goal would be the deciding goal. Jack Eichel found himself stick handling behind Robin Lehner, in an attempt to start a rush. As Eichel came across the crease, the puck ricocheted off his right foot and through Lehner’s five-hole. That would be the game-winning goal, with Buffalo falling 4-1 in San Jose.

The Kings game would prove to be just as bad for the Buffalo Sabres. From the opening puck drop, Los Angeles imposed their will over the Sabres. When all was said and done, Buffalo recorded only 26 shots with 15 coming in the third – gross, man.

Just one night later, Buffalo wrapped their trip in Anaheim. Some how, the Sabres managed to hang around with one of the Western Conference’s better teams. Buffalo hung on for a dreaded shootout and Rasmus Ristolainen became a legend with his shot, seen below. Side note – this victory goes in the books as the franchises’ 69th shootout victory all-time.

Buffalo continues to chug toward the inevitable end of this hockey season with three games this week – at Detroit / vs. Pittsburgh / vs.Toronto.

Quick hits, baby.

    • Congratulations, Beauts!

From all of us at BLTD Sports, we send our sincerest congratulations to the 2017 NWHL Isobel Cup Champions, the Buffalo Beauts!

    • Player of the Week

We could insist on a hard push here but for the third straight week, the BLTD “Quick Hits” Player of the Week is Buffalo’s sweet boy Jack Eichel.

A lean week offensively, but Eichel grabbed 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) in 3 games.

That tells you what kind of West Coast trip it was for the Buffalo Sabres.
