Quick Hits: Sabres at Canucks

The Buffalo Sabres came out swinging to start the Canada portion of their first road trip this season and head back to Buffalo after a punchless effort in Vancouver.

Vancouver continues their hot start to their hockey season, moving to 4-0-0, but more importantly for the Canucks, their goaltending is red hot. Last night’s winning goaltender Jacob Markstrom continues the hottest stretch of his career as he moved his season record to 3-0-0, with an incredible 1.32 GAA and a .932 save percentage.

Safe to say the Sabres were expected to get some shots past Markstrom, but he had different plans.

Buffalo’s offense has shown signs of life but then again, signs of struggle are evident. Sam Reinhart has been up-and-down on the top line, as he faces increased talent. Nobody really knows what the second line is, with Foligno/Larsson/Gionta taking the brunt of the rushes there. Also, why is Nicholas Deslauriers playing over guys like Hudson Fasching? Is he supposed to intimidate someone? We are more likely to get scared of his ice time than him actually intimidating someone on the ice.

Buffalo heads home for a little rest, as they prepare for a trip to Philadelphia on Tuesday night, for the first time this season. Face-off in Philadelphia is set for 7:30 PM. Remember, that game will be broadcast nationally on NBCSN.

No other way to sum up last night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks than describing it as a snoozefest.

Literally.

This recap comes to you more than 12 hours following the game, solely because the game put me into a deep slumber. Plus, someone decided to attack the internet for an entire day, rendering most websites useless.

Good news, I am awake now and better because I am not watching that game anymore. I watched some highlights following, and sheesh I know it is 4 games into an 82 game schedule, but if Buffalo continues to play this way..playoffs will be a thing they’ll be watching on television.

    • A first of many.

Last night’s lone Buffalo Sabres goal was quite forgetful, but there is at least one person who will never forget it.

Nick Baptiste, recently recalled from the Rochester Americans, was credited with the Sabres goal. This officially goes in the books as Baptiste’s first career NHL goal.

The goal was not pretty, it actually was kicked into the net by Vancouver defender Alex Edler. At the end of the day, a goal is a goal. Check out the footage below.
