The news could be worse in Buffalo right now for the Sabres.

This morning following practice, Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma announced that forward, Evander Kane has injured his MCL in his left knee and will miss 4-6 weeks.

Kane was injured Saturday night when he took a hit along the boards from New Jersey Devils defenseman, David Schlemko.

“I didn’t see the injury happen live,” Bylsma said. “When you see on the replay, and you see how is unfolded, it could have been a lot worse. I don’t know if I sighed with relief when it was 4-6 [weeks], but it’s not as bad as it could have been.”

So far this season through eight games, Kane has one goal and two assists and has a total of 28 shots on goals while averaging over 20 minutes of ice-time a game.

“[He has been] a lot of the speed, tenacity, and our drive for our offense,” Bylsma said. “He doesn’t quite have the numbers, but he’s been that for our team. Someone else gets the chance to do that now.”

At the earliest, Kane would return by November 23 when the Sabres play the St. Louis Blues. That is of course if Kane does not have any set backs in his recovery.

At the latest, Kane would be back for the December 7 matchup with the Vancouver Canucks.
